It’s finally spring! The days are longer, the flowers are out, and little by little, it’s warming up. Spring sessions are my favorite, and here’s why they might become yours, too:
Cherry blossoms! Magnolias! Tulips! So many blooms.
Have you noticed all the cherry blossoms blooming? Well I have. And those blooms make for some colorful, fun, and beautiful photos. And a floral backdrop works swimmingly with all types of portrait and event photography: headshots, families, couples, weddings, seniors. The best thing about flowers is how much color they bring to photos.
Some great spots for floral photo sessions:
Tom McCall Waterfront Park (98 SW Naito Pkwy, Portland, OR 97204)
International Rose Test Garden (400 SW Kingston Ave, Portland, OR 97205)
Crystal Springs Rhododendron Garden (5801 SE 28th Ave, Portland, OR 97202)
Overlook Park (1599 N Fremont St, Portland, OR 97227)
Wooden Shoe Tulip Farm and Vineyard (33814 S Meridian Rd, Woodburn, OR 97071)
Spring is the most colorful time of year.
Not only are the flowers out, but spring is the time we pull out our colorful clothes again. If that’s not how you roll, that’s cool! But if you like color, now’s the time to have fun and experiment. You might rock the traditional floral pattern, or go with some fun pastels, polka dots, or pinstripes. For this reason, spring is my all-time favorite season to photograph people - the colors are so happy-making!
You’ll get busy later…and so will I.
If you’ve been meaning to plan a photo session since last June, now’s the time to do it! Summers get busy quickly: school’s out, trips are planned, and backyard BBQs are being had. It’s wedding season and cousin Milly insists you fly 1,000 miles to see her get married, even though you barely know her. You know the drill. Summers are busy! It’s also my busiest time of year because it’s event season. So, take advantage of the Aries season we’re currently in and use that get-up-and-go energy to finally plan your session!
Not too hot, not too cold.
Spring is that perfect magical time where you’re not freezing your booty off, but you’re also not sweating off your makeup. AKA, you’ll look flawless in your photos because you’ll actually be a comfortable temperature. This is a bonus for kids, too. The more mild the temperature, the more patience they’ll have for the camera.
Layers and accessories.
Along with lots of creative color options, spring begs for layering and accessorizing: a cute rain jacket over a sundress, a flowing scarf over a structured top, and bows or suspenders to give an outfit a little flair. Spring is the time to be creative. It’s the season of new beginnings, coming out of our winter cocoons, and embracing the beautiful plants and animals that are waking up from the cold.
I absolutely love spring - it’s my favorite season! If you’re as jazzed as I am, join me for a photo session. You can check out my schedule and send me a line by clicking here. I can’t wait to have fun with you!
