About the project:
I began the Body Beautiful Project in 2015 in response to the body shame many of us feel all too often. The project is aimed to promote body peace, compassion, and self-love. I think everyone, no matter who they are, should be able to feel good in their body. Usually my work is very colorful, but most of the time, I make Body Beautiful images black and white. That way, the focus is all on you and what you have to say. However, if you want your images processed in color, I can do so!
Here’s how it works:
You’ll choose a phrase that feels empowering to you. I’ll write that phrase somewhere on your body; you can choose the place you want it written before our session, or I can help you choose. I’ll photograph you somewhere you feel comfortable, whether it be in your home or in one of Portland’s beautiful parks. You’ll get images that remind you everyday how powerful you are.
A few tips:
Keep it simple. I’ve found that the simpler the phrase, the more impact it has.
Don’t worry. If you don’t know exactly what you want to say or where you want to be photographed, I’ll help you decide. If you’d rather not use words, I can photograph just you. We’ll do what feels best for you.
Get excited! This session is all about you and how amazing you are! Do some self-care and make the day of our session all about you.
Ideas for your phrase:
I am beautiful.
I love myself.
My body is mine.
Vulnerability is beautiful.
My gender is beautiful.
I am powerful.
My sexuality is beautiful.
Fat is beautiful.
You can use any of the above phrases, or you can come up with something different. We’re going to do what feels right for you.
